ABOUT
A NEW CULTURAL POWERHOUSE
A new culture quarter has arisen around Kronborg Castle Elsinore Harbour and the area around Kronborg Castle are being developed into a cultural power centre in an amazing historical setting. Elsinore is at the heart of 600 years of dramatic Danish history. It was from here that Kronborg Castle’s cannon commanded the Øresund. It was here that Hamlet played out his tragedy, and it was here that for a century, Elsinore Shipyard helped build one of the world’s major maritime nations. A new cultural and recreational complex has now been added to the annals of this historical zone, propelling the lively history of the city, its harbour and castle full steam ahead into a dynamic millennium. The foundation for the area’s transformation is the Culture Harbour Kronborg project – a landscape project that highlights the castle’s unique location, strengthens its outer bastions and modernises Elsinore Harbour. The re-designed and modernised architecture of the old shipyard now houses The Culture Yard - the cultural core of Elsinore and its surrounding region. A modern Maritime Museum will have its unique setting in a dry dock next to the Yard, while Kronborg Castle has upgraded and developed new experiences to cater for its guests. Investments of more than a billion kroner have created a cultural powerhouse of international dimensions. Welcome to a fantastic history that reaches into the future and will be fully completed in 2013
